CSIR Fourth Paradigm Institute

(Formerly CSIR Centre for Mathematical Modelling and Computer Simulation)

A constituent laboratory of Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR).

Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India.

The unprecedented development in the science and technology of computing in the last decades opened up tremendous possibilities. It became clear that computing and simulation are going to play critical and enabling roles in addressing many complex problems of scientific significance and societal benefits. Quick to realize this development, CSIR decided to formulate an action plan for harnessing this emerging technology. It was thus that C-MMACS was conceived. It began functioning as a Centre in 1988.

One of the youngest and the smallest of CSIR laboratories, C-MMACS today is a vibrant and a premier institution of research. It has successfully blended basic and applied research.

Our Mission is to develop knowledge products in earth system and information sciences for societal benefit by exploiting modelling, simulation and data science capabilities.

The mission statement thus encompasses continuation of existing modelling and simulation work in earth sciences and places emphasis on exploiting data science capabilities across domains.
