Modelling for science, for a better future - some recent outcomes

Dr. Gangan Prathap (2000 to 2008)

Dr. Prathap is an eminent scientist with expertise in non-linear structural mechanics and finite element analysis. He contributed about 30 papers in the area of non-linear structural mechanics -  resolving  the long standing controversy regarding the physics and the mathematical modelling of the non-linear vibrations of thin shells. He do have an exceptional academic record including the first rank in IIT JEE in 1969, and the President of India prize for the first rank in the B.Tech. degree programme of IIT Madras. In 1990, he was awarded the S S Bhatnagar Prize in Science and Technology . He is the Fellow of Indian Academy of Sciences and Indian National Science Academy(INSA). Presently, he is the Director of CSIR NISCAIR.

To synergize the Transdisciplinary Pan-CSIR expertise and build a unified platform that embodies a rich set of big data enabling technologies and services with optimized performance to facilitate data intensive scientific discovery in the country.

To develop cutting edge data science products as a horizontal across the CSIR Themes and position as an Institute of Excellence in Bigdata and Artificial Intelligence.

Student Programme for Advancement in Research Knowledge (SPARK)

SPARK is intended to provide a unique opportunity to bright and motivated students of reputed Universities to carry out their major project/thesis work and advance their research knowledge in mathematical modelling and simulation of complex systems. The programme is intended to increase the interaction between scientists and faculty members of academic institutes along with their students towards a long term research collaboration.
